(Author Notes Only)
1. Origins of Matt’s Personal Fiefdoms
- Matt personally owns over 200 private fiefdoms.
- They range from tiny 20-acre nodes to mid-sized enclaves of 40 to 150 acres.
- These are not part of the Freehold, not part of the CCA, and not publicly listed by the CCA except where they fall inside its regional jurisdiction for infrastructure compliance.
- Most were obtained through:
- Quiet backroom deals with corporate land managers
(who controlled millions of square miles and did not notice—or did not care about—hundreds of acres disappearing) - Direct purchase from corporate dynasties
- Defaulted or neglected properties no longer on any corporation’s books
- Private interfamily transfers, especially among the five Marmaduke branches
- Legacy holdings dating to before 2100, passed to Matt 2101 and then down to the modern line
- Quiet backroom deals with corporate land managers
- The only “secret” one is the Hytop facility in north Alabama, effectively seized as unclaimed waste land and fortified.
The staff honestly reports that no human settlement exists within 50 miles and hasn’t for 65 years.
2. Kinzie & Alan Grable → Matt 2101 Line
- Kinzie and Alan Grable died before 2019.
- Under private intra-family agreements, everything passed to Matt 2101, Alan’s son.
- This transfer positioned the modern Marmaduke line as inheritors to large tracts of early post-collapse land parcels, including:
- farmland,
- riverfront properties,
- abandoned corporate sites,
- shoreline parcels on Lakes of the Ozarks and Truman Reservoir.
3. What Fiefdoms Actually Are
- They are self-contained communities, sometimes ethnic, sometimes industry-centered.
- They are Matt’s personal property, not governed by Freehold law, though they maintain Freehold-level standards.
- Many function as:
- high-end farms,
- orchards,
- timber extraction and processing nodes,
- mining/recycling micro-sites,
- overwatch settlements that monitor 10–20 mile radius areas for safety.
4. Takumimura
- Size: 44 acres.
- Origin:
- Originally an Amish farm completely surrounded by a massive Cargill monoculture plantation.
- Amish owners refused to sell to Cargill or to the Marmadukes.
- When the Amish declined to join the CCA in 2101, Matt 2101 took them under personal protection under a charter guaranteeing their ownership “so long as the family endured.”
- The line lasted another century.
- When the last descendants died out or moved on in 2259, a Kyoto-born orchard manager proposed transforming the enclave into a Japanese-style village.
- Features:
- Edo-period architecture
- Tea garden, geisha house, street food, artisan crafts
- Japanese as the working language
- Studio Ghibli atmosphere
- Rival enclave: Mohonar Bari, a Bengali cultural fiefdom.
5. Mohonar Bari
- Size: ~66 acres.
- Barely 60 years old, but surged in activity and population in the last 20 years.
- Friendly rivalry with Takumimura, particularly in:
- festivals,
- craft markets,
- baseball (though Takumimura fields stronger teams).
6. Sarson Vadi & Little Munich
- Sarson Vadi: Located near the southern lakes, Punjabi and Sikh cultural enclave.
- Little Munich:
- ~120 acres.
- Set within wine country between Columbia and the Mississippi River.
- Shared ownership patterns include Marmaduke private holdings and Freehold-affiliated land trusts.
7. Enclaves That Are Not Freehold Fiefdoms but full CCA members
These are not owned by Matt personally, but sit in the CCA zone and are well-known:
Rocheport
- Jewish enclave, multi-owner.
- Known for scholarship and quiet governance.
New Franklin – “Little Seoul”
- 200+ owners.

- early freehold consolidation,
- and family inheritance through the 22nd century.

- State, County, and Local Law Enforcement
- State and Federal Agency bureaucrats
